The renewed agreement will integrate world-class learning from more than 375 leading companies and universities into Kazakhstan's higher education system, with a focus on equipping graduates with critical skills in artificial intelligence (AI), data science, cybersecurity, and digital business.

“This partnership ensures our students have direct pathways from classrooms to careers,” said a Ministry spokesperson. “By embedding Coursera's verified certifications into degree programs, we are modernizing our curricula and preparing every graduate for the digital economy.”

Key Features of the Renewed Agreement

The collaboration grants Kazakhstani students access to over 13,500 courses, including 1,100+ generative AI courses such as Google AI Essentials and Anthropic's Building with the Claude API. Students can earn official European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) credits toward their degrees by completing job-relevant certifications.

Under the initiative, more than 4,000 courses on AI, machine learning, and data science have been translated into the Kazakh language, removing language barriers and ensuring the national tongue remains central to higher education. “AI literacy is no longer optional—it's a foundational skill for all graduates, regardless of field,” the spokesperson added.

Background

Coursera has been a strategic skills development partner for Kazakhstan's Ministry of Science and Higher Education since 2022. The partnership initially focused on bridging the gap between traditional curricula and rapidly evolving labor market demands.

To date, the collaboration has reached over 235,000 students and resulted in more than 500,000 certificates earned across over 100 Kazakhstani universities. The renewed agreement accelerates the AI-Sana initiative, which aims to embed foundational generative AI and digital ethics knowledge into every student's education.

What This Means

The renewed partnership directly addresses the speed of digital transformation reshaping global labor markets. By offering industry-recognized certifications in fields like AI, engineering, and finance, Kazakhstan is positioning its workforce to thrive in a digital economy.

For students, this means a curriculum that aligns with real-world job requirements, from data analytics to cybersecurity. For employers, it signals a pipeline of talent equipped with verified, up-to-date skills ready to drive innovation. The Ministry expects the partnership to significantly reduce skills gaps and boost national competitiveness in emerging technologies.

“This isn't just about access to courses—it's about creating a system where every Kazakhstani student can earn credentials that carry weight in the global job market,” the Ministry spokesperson concluded. “We are setting a new standard for higher education in the region.”
