A Renewed Commitment to Digital Learning

As the pace of digital transformation reshapes industries worldwide, universities must adapt to ensure their graduates are ready for tomorrow's careers. In a significant move to address this challenge, Kazakhstan's Ministry of Science and Higher Education has renewed its partnership with Coursera, the global online learning platform. This renewed collaboration deepens the integration of world-class, for-credit courses into the country's higher education system, providing tens of thousands of students with critical skills in human-centric abilities, digital literacy, business acumen, and artificial intelligence (AI).

Key Pillars of the Renewed Partnership

The initiative, facilitated through Coursera for Campus, directly supports the Ministry's strategic goals by focusing on three core areas:

Modernizing Curricula with Global Expertise

Students across Kazakhstan now have access to over 13,500 courses from more than 375 of the world's leading universities and companies. These courses are eligible for official ECTS credits, enabling learners to earn recognized transferable credits toward their degrees while gaining job-ready skills. This approach bridges the gap between academic learning and career demands, with courses spanning high-demand fields such as Data Science, Cybersecurity, AI, Engineering, and Finance.

Building Foundational AI Knowledge at Scale

Recognizing AI literacy as a fundamental skill for all graduates, the partnership supports the Ministry's AI-Sana initiative. Through access to over 1,100 generative AI courses—including introductory offerings like Google AI Essentials and cutting-edge content such as Building with the Claude API from Anthropic—every Kazakh student can develop a solid understanding of Generative AI and Digital Ethics. This ensures that regardless of their field, graduates enter the workforce equipped to leverage AI responsibly.

Promoting the Kazakh Language in Online Education

To overcome language barriers and make world-class education accessible to all, more than 4,000 courses on priority topics—including AI, generative AI, data science, and machine learning—have been translated into Kazakh. This effort reinforces the national language's role in modern education and ensures that students can learn in their native tongue while acquiring globally relevant skills.

A Track Record of Impact

Since the initial partnership began in 2022, Coursera has served as a strategic skills development partner for Kazakhstan's higher education sector. The results highlight the program's effectiveness:

  • Over 235,000 students reached across the country
  • More than 500,000 certificates earned by learners at over 100 Kazakhstani universities

These achievements demonstrate how the collaboration is successfully bridging the gap between curriculum and careers, aligning with the Ministry's vision to provide all Kazakh learners with access to the best education in the world.

Looking Ahead: A Foundation for the Future

The renewal of this partnership marks a continued commitment to preparing Kazakhstan's youth for the global digital economy. By integrating industry-recognized certifications and for-credit learning into the national higher education system, the Ministry is ensuring that students graduate with both theoretical knowledge and practical, verifiable skills. As digital transformation accelerates, such initiatives will be crucial in equipping the next generation with the tools they need to thrive.
